Evan had to start Thursday’s show as “Irrational Evan” as he reacted to the news that Kodai Senga would likely start the season on the IL with a “moderate” strain in the back of his right shoulder.
“Let’s start irrationally. What the hell did we do to the baseball Gods?” Evan said. “What did we do as Mets fans - and I’m talking about those of us under the age of 40 - because we don’t have a damn thing. We don’t have ;86 to think back on. We have 2000. We finally get to the World Series, we lose to the Yankees. We have Mike Hampton wanting a better school district. We have A-Rod wanting to come here, but our team saying ’24 and 1.’ And boy do we have injuries over the last few years…over the last three years, the Mets have lost pitcher after pitcher in spring training.
“There are days, today being one of them, that I look to the baseball heavens and say ‘What the eff did we do?’”
Listing all of the recent spring injuries that have plagued the Mets in recent years, from Jacob deGrom and Edwin Diaz to Jose Quintana and Justin Verlander, Evan simply wants answers from the baseball Gods as to why they seem to have it out for his team.
“What did we do to deserve to be kicked in the balls every single spring?” Evan said. “This sucks, this is unfair, and I don’t know how anybody can think Kodai Senga is coming back any time before June.”
