The Mets got an unexpected Labor Day off, as their game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather throughout the day in western Pennsylvania.
The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday, with the makeup game to be played at 12:35 p.m. and Game 2, the originally scheduled game, to begin at 6:35 p.m.
The pitching matchups will now see Mitch Keller vs. Taijuan Walker on Tuesday, and then the Pirates sending Johan Oviedo and Bryse Wilson to the mound Wednesday against Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt – although neither team has yet announced their order for Wednesday.
The Mets have Thursday off, so the doubleheader will not force them to need an extra starter over the weekend. They also will not see their division lead shrink any further (or grow), as the Braves have Monday off ahead of a two-game set in Oakland.
