Ottavino, along with the addition of David Robertson, help bolster a bullpen behind Edwin Diaz, who was brought back on a five-year deal at the start of the offseason. The righty and his sharp slider posted a strong 2.06 ERA in 65.2 innings of work last season.

It was a bounceback year for Ottavino, who had pitched to a 4.59 ERA in his previous two seasons, but the 37-year-old holds a 3.44 ERA across his 12-year career.

The Mets reportedly had discussed a trade possibility with the White Sox for All-Star closer Liam Hendriks, and it will remain to be seen whether the Ottavino signing impacts that interest.
