Mets interested in Luis Severino, plan to meet with former Yankee: Report

The Mets reportedly have interest in a lifelong Yankee, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Per Sammon, the Mets are interested in Luis Severino, and plan to meet with the free agent right-hander.

Severino, a homegrown Yankee, has only played for the Bombers since making his MLB debut in 2015. He blossomed into the team's ace and put together consecutive seasons in 2017 and 2018 in which he garnered Cy Young love, but injuries have derailed his career ever since.

Oblique injuries and Tommy John surgery have caused extended absences, but he had always been an effective pitcher when healthy. The 29-year-old posted a 3.18 ERA in 102 innings of work in 2022, but he took a big step back last season, pitching to a 6.65 ERA in 89.1 innings.

The Mets have multiple rotation slots to fill, so Severino will likely be just one of several free agent pitchers that they will meet with this winter.
