Joe Benigno is fed up with James McCann, says Tomas Nido should play all meaningful games

Tomas Nido provided one of the only sources of Mets offense on Friday night, belting a solo home run in an eventual 5-2 loss to the Braves.

The home run only raised Nido's OPS to .610 on the season, but Joe Benigno says there should be no debate who the starting catcher should be come playoff time.

It's not James McCann.

"He stinks," Joe said during Saturday's show. "He's an automatic out. He's not even that good defensively."

McCann's OPS (.519) on the season is nearly 100 points lower than Nido's as he only has two home runs over 58 games. So far as a Met, he is batting just .219 with a .606 OPS, and Joe has seen enough. The Mets can't afford to play McCann when the stakes are this high and the division title is on the line.

"In all these big games now, I want to see Tomas Nido play," Joe said. "Case closed."
