The Mets have bolstered their starting rotation after losing Jacob deGrom, Taijuan Walker, and Chris Bassitt in free agency, adding Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, and Carlos Rodon to the mix.
But New York is reportedly looking to shed one of its few holdovers from last year’s rotation.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets are listening to trade offers centered around veteran righty Carlos Carrasco, shortly after the team picked up Carrasco’s 2023 option.
Per Sherman, the desire to potentially trade Carrasco is not financially motivated, but more so that the team sees David Peterson or Tylor Megill potentially being a better fit at the back of the rotation in 2023.
Carrasco, soon to turn 36, put together a strong season in 2022, pitching to a 3.97 ERA in 152 innings after his first year in Queens was derailed by injuries. He would be a free agent after the 2023 season.
Megill looked like a revelation early in the 2022 season with a newfound velocity, but he battled injuries himself. Peterson made 19 starts due to injuries in the Mets rotation and pitched to a 3.83 ERA.
