Mets will 'consider' Kevin Kiermaier if Brandon Nimmo doesn't return: Report

The Mets are reportedly still in touch with Brandon Nimmo, as general manager Billy Eppler told reporters on Monday, but if they are unable to bring back their center fielder, there is reportedly a backup plan.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Mets will "consider" adding Kevin Kiermaier if they are unable to come to an agreement with Nimmo, who many speculate could make more than $100 million in free agency this winter.

Kiermaier, a free agent himself, has spent his entire 10-year career with the Rays, and has been one of the top defensive center fielders in the game for much of that career. Offensively, he doesn't have the same production as Nimmo, as he posted a .649 OPS in an injury-riddled season in 2022 where he played in just 63 games.

In 2021, he played in 122 games and was just above league average with a 102 OPS+, and he played in 129 games in 2019.

He has not played in more games than that since 2015.
