The Nationals Twitter account chose violence before game one of a doubleheader with the Mets on Saturday, and Francisco Lindor silenced the trash talk in epic fashion.
Just before the start of game one, the account tweeted a reference from The Office, suggesting that Trea Turner is the best shortstop in the NL East. Turner, batting over .300 with 10 home runs this season, is having a very solid season, but the team Twitter account picked the worst time to spark the debate.
Lindor, the target of the trash talk, rocked a two-run home run in his first at-bat of the game to give the Mets a 2-0 lead, and New York's Twitter account quickly fired back.
Two innings later, Lindor picked up an RBI single to increase the Mets lead to 3-0, prompting another response from Mets Twitter.
It only got better for New York and worse for the Nationals, as Lindor stepped in in the fifth and blasted another two-run home run, accounting for all five runs scored through the Mets first five innings to give New York a 5-0 lead.
Washington has not deleted the tweet, which has aged terribly, much to the delight of Mets fans.
