The Mets offense has been a topic of criticism to begin the season, but their lineup was given a boost by Pete Alonso's league-leading sixth home run of the season on Wednesday, helping New York secure a series win over the Padres.
Now, as the Mets head out west for a 10-game road trip, Alonso feels like the team's offense could be awakening after getting back on track following a sweep at the hands of the Brewers the last time the team was on the road.
"I feel like our potential is through the roof," Alonso said. "It's still early, but once we get all clicking and having some momentum built up a little bit, I feel like this can be a really food start for us and a really good test with this west coast trip."
There are some bats that still haven't gotten out of the gate, as Eduardo Escobar has struggled, Mark Canha is hitting just .200, and Tomas Nido has just three hits in 24 at-bats. Still, Alonso believes in the Mets bats from top to bottom.
"Once we get our momentum going, I feel like we're going to be an even scarier ball club," Alonso said. "We have a really deep lineup and put together really tough at-bats, long at-bats. I think we have a chance to really get rolling here."
