Pete Alonso came back to life at the plate in a big way on Friday night, going 2-for-5 with a two-run home run off Aaron Nola to send the Mets on their way to a big series-opening win against the Phillies.
It was Alonso's 30th home run of the season, while his three RBI on the night got him to 100 in that category, reaching notable milestones in both home runs and RBI on the same night while still in August.
"It's great, but also, I'm just trying to do the best I can to help this team win," Alonso said. "My job is to produce offensively, play the best first base I can, and run the bases and don't give away free outs.
"I'm really happy and satisfied with my consistency so far this year and I just want to keep being the best version of myself so I can help this team win through the rest of the season and hopefully through the playoffs."
