Amid reports that Max Scherzer would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if the Mets decide to sell at the trade deadline, Sal says the Mets ace needs to take a look in the mirror.
And if Justin Verlander shares a similar mindset, he needs to take a look at himself as well.
"Oh, really? So this is the Mets' fault? Guess what, you, Max, are the reason the team is a losing team!" Sal said. "And you too, Justin! Both of you guys! You want to go play for a winner? You're supposed to be the reason this team is winning, and you're not!
"That's rich. 'Oh, we want to go play for a winner.' The Mets signed you to make them a winner. I don't care what you did before. Here, they've been losers…would it kill them to do their job for a year or two?"
Scherzer and Verlander haven't been their dominant selves from recent years past, but Scherzer has been steady of late, though he and Verlander could seek to move to a contender to try and get one last shot at a title if the Mets become sellers. Sal says the two future Hall of Famers would simply be running from a mess of their own creation.
"I don't want to hear that he wants to play for a winner," Sal said. "You're part of the problem, the biggest part of the problem, why this team is not a winner!"
