Dak Prescott is who we thought he is, at least in Tiki Barber’s mind: he’s the guy that led the NFL in interceptions in 2022, and chokes in the clutch.
And, it seems, one who is too enamored with his top wideout, which makes the blueprint to beat him very easy at times.
“I went back last year and I just wanted it to look like Dak is a good quarterback, but then you go back and look at his interceptions – and every time we talk about Dak, I say this to you: he sometimes gets sometimes enamored with CeeDee Lamb, right?” Tiki said Monday. “He gets stuck on Lamb where he believes that Lamb's gonna save him, and last season, 90 percent of his interceptions were forcing balls to CeeDee, right? So you kind of know what's gonna happen when Dak gets a little bit under pressure.”
So, for all the Dallas fans and haters that rag on the Giants because they don’t have their franchise QB?
“I made that statement about Dak Prescott because we all know who Dak Prescott is,” Tiki said, “but I don't know what Daniel Jones can be. I have no idea, but I know there's an exciting upside because he's big, he's fast, he's smart, and the only thing that's haunting him is he can't stay healthy. So if you throw out the health side, then Daniel Jones is so appealing. Dak, you know who he is, what mistake he's going to make every single game that it becomes pressure-filled – and that’s exactly what happened yesterday afternoon on the pick-six that basically ended the game.”
And to Tiki, that pick looked AWFUL familiar.
“It was done on the exact same way that I looked at all those interceptions a year ago,” Tiki said. “It's the same thing over and over and over and over and over again with Dak Prescott. I'm not saying he's a terrible quarterback, but I'm just telling you he's gonna make the same mistake over and over and over again and I don't want that because in big moments, I gotta believe my quarterback’s not gonna do that, and Dak does it every time.”
Here's the kicker, though: Dak has a big contract, and his head coach is entering the final year if his deal…and could it be time to see if the man who coached arguably the greatest clutch QB ever can fix Dak?
“If Bill Belichick is willing to walk through that door, hey, Mike McCarthy, get the hell out of here,” Evan chimed in, and when Tiki said ‘that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen,’ Evan’s response was this: “What was yesterday? The greatest head coach of all-time is disaster now?”
Yeah, Tiki and Morash are both in that boat.
“The relationship between him and Jerry, or the relationship between him and the media, the national media now that actually cares not just when you're winning, but when you're losing,” Tiki said. “Think of New England: you stopped caring about the Patriots for a couple of years. It didn't matter.
But if he's in Dallas and they're losing, trust me, Bill Belichick is gonna get inundated with questions that he doesn't want to answer.”
“Nobody's gonna be laughing when Belichick's the hardass he is in Dallas with the media and not just the local Dallas media,” Morash added.
“Bill Belichick needs his power that Robert Kraft gave him; Jerry Jones, out of desperation, might claim he's gonna give Bill power…until the first time they have to try to come to some kind of agreement, and it is going to blow up in their face!”
Maybe a match made in Hell, not Heaven?
“You have a desperate Jerry Jones who has admitted he's getting older now, and every year I feel like we have the pieces in place,” Morash said, “and what will be a very desperate Bill Belichick to prove he can win somewhere else because Brady did? They're never gonna agree on anything because they're two thick-headed guys!”
