Hal Steinbrenner expressed confusion as to why Yankee fans would be angry about the team’s current standing at this point in the season, and BT is getting tired of explaining why fans have every right to be frustrated.
“The product is third place,” BT said. “The product has been as boring as watching paint dry in June. They’re 1-5 against the Red Sox, just got swept in Boston.
“It’s the same script every year. Overly reliant on the home run, too old, too slow…guys that are playing are guys that we didn’t even think about in April, and the season ends with us losing to the same team in the same way.”
BT doesn’t want to hear any more from Steinbrenner talking as if the team’s current predicament is something new. The injuries, struggling veterans, and clear inferiority to top teams in the league has been going on for years.
“Is he serious?” BT said. “If this was a one-off…but what Hal is missing is that the frustration isn’t just missing this year. They attack it the same way every year, and it doesn’t work.
“It feels like we want to win more…it’s not having a pulse on the fanbase. You’re the owner of the Yankees. You have to have a pulse on the fanbase.”
