As the Yankees are one loss away from matching their longest losing streak in over 100 years, C-Mac believes the franchise has reached a point where cleaning house is more than justified.
So, he would not be opposed at all to moving on from Brian Cashman.
“I think it’s been an abomination since 2020,” C-Mac said. “I think he built it up to a point, and now he’s made mistake after mistake, and the idea of him not winning and putting this terrible team together…is enough. Not having been to a World Series since ’09 is enough.”
But, C-Mac is also convinced that the Yanks won’t be firing Cashman, so the more productive conversation would be centered around Cashman’s ability to turn the franchise around. While Cashman hasn’t made his best decisions in recent years, C-Mac has seen the GM go from a deadline seller to ALCS team in one season, so there’s no reason to believe he can’t do it again.
“I don’t think Brian Cashman is inept,” C-Mac said. “Brian Cashman chases when he thinks there’s a chance, and he’s chased this team since 2017. But he built it in 2016, which is kind of the same situation they could be in now: recognizing they are not good enough, that they need to change, and he was in the ALCS a year later.
“The question isn’t ‘is Brian Cashman going to be back?’ He’s going to be back. The question is, ‘Can Brian Cashman still make the changes that are necessary?’ I still think it’s reasonable to say he can.”
