Carlos Rodon is on the cusp of an important step towards his return from a forearm strain.

The new Yankee lefty could be throwing his first bullpen session since the injury either Thursday or Friday, pitching coach Matt Blake said, via the New York Post, as he nears a week through his throwing program.

“Overall, it feels like he’s in a strong spot now and whatever he had going in his forearm is resolving, which is good to see,” Blake said, via The Post.

Rodon, who signed a $162 million deal with the Yanks this past offseason, will have multiple bullpen sessions before throwing live batting practice, then would move on to a rehab assignment. So, while a bullpen session would be a promising step forward, he still has at least weeks to go before making his Yankee debut.

Rodon told reporters after the injury that it was something he dealt with last season, but wanted to take care of it now rather than down the stretch of the season. He also added that had it been October or November, he would have been pitching through the mild strain.
