The Yankees logged another comeback win on Wednesday, have won 15 of their last 17, and are off to one of their best starts in franchise history, joining a company of other teams that have all at least reached the World Series when starting 22-8 or better in their first 30 games.
And it’s finally starting to get to Evan Roberts.
“I have to be honest, this is really starting to annoy me,” Evan said during Wednesday’s show.
“I don’t have any qualms with the Yankees, and I’ll throw bouquets at them, they’re 22-8. They deserve a ton of credit. But it’s starting to kind of annoy me, just a tad.”
You would think Evan would be too busy enjoying the successes of his first-place Mets to worry about the Yankees, but even he will admit that there’s a part of him that wishes his team had the New York spotlight all to themselves.
“I think a part of it is that the Mets are doing so well,” Evan said. “As much as we say ‘The Yankees are in a different league, they’re in a different division, it doesn’t matter how they do,’ I think when your neighbors are Yankee fans, there’s a little sibling rivalry.”
Both teams have plenty to brag about in the Subway Series rivalry, but Evan is getting a little ticked at the Yanks having too much to cheer about lately.
“When [Aaron] Judge hit that fat curveball for a smashed home run, and Gleyber Torres, for the first time this year, hit an 0-2 pitch over the fence,” Evan said. “There was a part of me that said ‘Really? You guys can’t lose? You can’t lose this game?’”
