As the Yankees get ready to take on the Mets in a two-game Subway Series on Tuesday night, much of the attention will be in Tampa where Aaron Judge is continuing his rehab.
Aaron Boone, appearing on the “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast, said that Judge will be working on building his tolerance, which will include another simulated game against fellow rehabbing teammate, pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga.

“I’ll get a report at the end of [Tuesday],” Boone said. “Loaisiga is heading [to Tampa] tonight. He’ll throw tomorrow against Judge. … Good thing for Aaron it doesn’t get any tougher than [Loaisiga]. Only gets easier having to face right on righty Loaisiga. …he looks great. He looked like playoff Lo.”
While Boone said Loaisiga will get a rehab game in over the weekend, Judge remains more of a day-to-day situation and the Yankees skipper is still not putting a timetable on a potential series where he can return.
“We’ll see how these next days go,” Boone said, “if we’re at a point if [Baltimore or Tampa Bay] is at play or not.”
The Yankees would certainly like to have Judge back for their upcoming stretch of games following the Mets, where they will face the Orioles, Rays and Astros.
All three of those teams are in front of the Yankees in either the AL East or wild card standings and how they fare against them will be pivotal in their pursuit of reaching the playoffs.
Since Judge injured his big right toe on June 2, the Yankees are 18-22 and tied with the Red Sox for fourth place in the AL East, 2.5 games out of a wild-card spot.
