Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday afternoon that it wasn’t his preference to play Game 5 through a rainy slog – and he got his wish about six hours later.
After a rain delay of just over 2 ½ hours, MLB announced at 9:36 p.m. that Game 5 of the American League Championship Series has been postponed, and will be made up Tuesday with first pitch at 4:07 p.m.
Coverage will begin on WFAN at 3:25 p.m. with the Pregame Show.
Jameson Taillon vs. Aaron Civale was the scheduled pitching matchup for Game 5, but the Yankees have confirmed that Nestor Cortes will start tomorrow instead, while Zack Meisel reports that "the Guardians are officially listing Tuesday's starter as TBD," but Terry Francona had said earlier in the day Civale would still go in Game 5 if it were postponed.
The winner of Game 5 will fly to Houston to begin the ALCS on Wednesday night, and could end up playing 11 games in 13 days if that series goes the distance as well.
