Sal: Yankees season, and jobs, are on the line against Royals this weekend

As the Yankees come out of their much-needed off day and prepare to host the lowly Royals on Friday night, Sal says the Bombers’ season is on the line, and maybe even some jobs.

“Their season is on the line here…it’s now for the Yankees,” Sal said. “They’ve played themselves into this point…they’re sinking like a rock.

“If it is an ugly series against the Royals this weekend, then I do think that changes could be made at the end of the season.”

Sal says Boone will be on the “hot seat” if the Yankees don’t take care of business against one of the worst teams in the league, and while he believes a bad weekend will mean big changes, he doesn’t believe it will happen.

Instead, he says the Yanks will begin their turnaround starting Friday.

“It begins tonight in the Bronx. This is where the Yankees turnaround starts,” Sal said. “It better, because if the Yankees don’t take care of the Royals, they are gonna be in big-time trouble over the next two weeks going into the trade deadline. All of a sudden, over the last two or three weeks, the Yankees are playing themselves into sellers…The Yankees gotta right the ship here, otherwise, you can make the case that ‘Hey, are they gonna be buyers at the deadline and investing in this team?’

“If the Yankees don’t go 4-1 over the next five games heading into the Orioles series, and they don’t look different in the process, it might be a different story next week. But, for now, this better be rock bottom. And I really think it will be. I guarantee next week, Monday morning when it’s me and BT, the vibe around the Yankees will be different…this is gonna be the start of one of those Yankee stretches.”
