Charlotte native and Duke Blue Devil Daniel Jones was the second quarterback selected in the 2019 NFL Draft by the New York Giants with the sixth-overall pick.
Jones, a graduate Charlotte Latin High School, spent four years at Duke that included a redshirt year in 2015.
The Giants and were rumored to be high on Jones in the days leading up to the draft, but many experts predicted Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins to be the first quarterback off the board.
Jones is expected to be the successor of 38-year-old and two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.
Manning has been the team’s starting quarterback since 2004 and has started every game but one in his career for the Giants.
Jones was 17-19 in his starts at Duke.
Jones was ranked as the 32nd best prospect by NFL.com and the fourth-best quarterback behind Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock. Murray was selected No. 1 overall by the Arizona Cardinals.
