Here are some quick highlights of what happened Friday morning at the Carolina Panthers training camp practice that a select group of media were able to watch:

-The team wore shells today, meaning the players wore shorts, helmets and small shoulder pads.

-Linebacker Shaq Thompson, who is nursing a slight groin injury, participated at full speed in some drills, like 11-on-11, and sat on the sidelines stretching during other drills. Head coach Matt Rhule said he will be fine.

-Wide receiver Curtis Samuel is dealing with a tight hamstring and didn't participate in every drill.

-Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris said no tailgating will be permitted for Panther games, but that the county and state have yet to decide if some fans will be allowed to attend the games at Bank of America Stadium. She said the three entities are in constant contact and that an announcement on that should be coming soon. The Kansas City Chiefs are considering allowing a small cluster of fans willing to sit together in certain sections to attend games.

-It was a rainy practice and during position drills, the defense went inside the bubble, while the offense stayed outside in a light rain.

-Tight end Temarrick Hemingway wore a regular jersey today, meaning he was allowed to participate in full drills. On Thursday, he wore a green jersey, which mean non-contact drills only. He had a head injury and was placed in protocol.

-Omar Bayless didn't practice again and is listed as day-to-day as he deals with a knee injury. He's missed three straight practices.

-Running back Christian McCaffrey said he contacted former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera yesterday after it was learned Rivera has cancer. The prognosis is good.
