Rick Bonnell from the Charlotte Observer joined the show to discuss what we might see from the Hornets tonight in the NBA Draft.
Bonnell started off the interview saying he doesn't see any logic in trading down for the Hornets. The beat writer went on to discuss how “star-less” Charlotte is, emphasizing the importance of picking a player that “has a chance to be special.”
Bonnell went on to speculate that as long as the team does not trade up, they likely will be happy with James Wiseman, LaMelo Ball, or Anthony Edwards. Reflecting on Devonte’ Graham’s growth with the team, Bonnell did say Ball could be the complicated choice based on his fit in the backcourt. Diving deeper into the top prospects in this draft, Bonnell did note Wiseman’s limited résumé and question marks regarding Edwards’ focus. Bonnell closed by saying that Hornets General Manager Mitch Kupchak accepted the position with Charlotte knowing he would be tasked with fixing the team’s salary cap problems, and also knowing he would have full autonomy over basketball operations.
