The College Football Writer for CBS Sports joined Kyle Bailey today on the Clubhouse to recap some of the North Carolina colleges debut games and what stood out.
Chip first reacted to the breaking news of App State's broadcast game against Marshall will now be moved to CBS as Chip said this is a big perk of being ranked in the Top 25, and it's another win for the Sun Belt Conference who has had a dominating start to the season. When it came to App's first game over the weekend against Charlotte Chip said that it looks like this offense is heavily based on the run with an aggressive downhill defense, but Chip did notice some lapses.
When it came to lapses Kyle asked Chip if we can take anything anything major from the Tar Heels and Sam Howell's slow start against Syracuse and Chip stated:
"I would say that the Trevor Lawrence effect of knowing that they have all of this talent and excitement with Sam Howell and the rest of the offense possibly forcing things too much instead of just letting things come to them possibly led to the rocky start for the Heels because this Syracuse team is bad."
The last thing that Chip discussed was why Saturday was proof about his Notre Dame's prediction that their offense would be like Georgia this year in that they have no formidable outside weapons after losing Chase Claypool, they are really good at running the ball with the best O-Line in the country, Ian Book is just Ian Book, and Notre Dame has a defense that will bend but not break. Chip says that much like the Bulldogs Notre Dame will win games in non-spectacular fashion.
