Cam Newton has commented publicly for the first time since testing positive for COVID-19.
"I never will question God's reasoning; just will always respond with, 'YES LORD,'" Newton wrote on Instagram. "I appreciate all the love, support and well wishes! I will take this time to get healthy and self reflect on the other amazing things that I should be grateful for!"
News of Newton's positive test broke Saturday morning, ultimately forcing the Patriots' game against the Chiefs to be moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday night to ensure there was not a spread among Patriots players and staff.
All the Patriots' tests Sunday morning came back negative. Both the Patriots and the Chiefs will undergo another round of testing on Monday before the game, which is set to kick off at 7:05 p.m. ET on CBS.
Brian Hoyer is expected to start in Newton's place. Newton could potentially return for next Sunday's game against the Broncos if he's asymptomatic and has enough negative test results between now and then. If he's symptomatic, he will likely have to miss at least one more game.
