Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - In the days leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, WGR will provide profiles on some players that could be a good fit for the Buffalo Bills at positions of need.
As we continue to focus on cornerbacks, this profile will feature Shavon Revel Jr. from East Carolina University.
In his final college season before, what he hopes will be, an NFL career, things didn't go according to plan for Revel Jr.
A starting cornerback for East Carolina, Revel played in just three games before suffering a season ending torn ACL. Revel did attend the NFL Combine in February, but did not work out. He is expected, though, to get medical clearance in time for training camp this summer.
Revel's abbreviated senior season followed a breakout 2023 campaign for the native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Revel started every game for the Pirates, and earned Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference honors. He recorded 54 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a team-high 12 pass break ups.
Revel began his college career at the junior college level, playing two seasons for Louisburg College in North Carolina. He then spent three years with East Carolina.
The 6-foot-3, 193-pound Revel left East Carolina with 24 games played, 15 games started and three career interceptions.
He was also a track star in high school, as Revel ran a 6.9 55-meter dash, and recorded a 5-foot-8 high jump.
Here is what Joe Marino from the “Locked on Bills” and “Locked on NFL Scouting” podcasts has to say about Revel:
Positives:
I think the name of the game here is length, athleticism, really good arm length and really good body control.
Revel smothers receivers in press coverage and I think the overall physical profile here translates very well to any coverage technique whether you want to play him in off man coverage, zone coverage, or up in the face of receivers at the line.
I think there's a skill set here that is scheme transcendent, which, of course is great for your defense because it opens the menu of options.
He's a big corner that plays big. Physical, eager tackler. I love to hit so there's a lot to like about the physicality, the coverage profile and the physical upside to make him really appealing as a prospect
Concerns:
Revel is coming off of an ACL tear in September. I think he is high hipped, so you have some segmented transitions.
I think it's fair to point out that he hasn't really been challenged by top receiving talent at East Carolina, although I thought his game in 2023 against Michigan was really strong, and I do think he's got sufficient ball skills. But it's hard to overlook some opportunities that he had to make some plays on the ball where whether he couldn't find it or he couldn't quite get himself in proper position at the catch point.
I thought he left some meat on the bone when it comes to chances to make plays on the ball.
WGR will provide full coverage of the 2025 NFL Draft during all seven rounds, starting Thursday, April 24 and continuing through Saturday, April 26.
