Cleveland, Ohio (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills keep their winning streak alive with a hard-fought 23-20 victory over the Browns on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field.
The Bills offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first half. Running back James Cook, led the charge on 16 total carries for 117 yards on 2 touchdowns. On a complete reverse of last week's matchup in Foxborough, the Bills had an offensive explosion in the first half, scoring three straight touchdowns on their first three possessions.
However, the second half turned into a defensive show between the two teams, as the Bills offense was held two three points in the final 30 minutes of the contest. Dropped passes in the fourth frame from Brandin Cooks and Dawson Knox (on 4th down in the end zone), gave Cleveland a couple extra cracks at taking the lead late. However, the Bills defense stood tall with massive plays from Greg Rousseau, recording 2.5 sacks on the day.
The Bills were able to pick up a huge 3rd and 1 quarterback sneak from Josh Allen to put the game on ice for the Bills. Despite the nail-biting score against a 3-11 team, the Bills chances of winning the AFC East are still alive.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott, while excited about the victory, does admit that there is a lot for the Bills to work on as they prepare for next week's contest vs the reigning Super Bowl Champion, Philadelphia Eagles.
"So we need to do the basic things better... I'll start with basic fundamentals, and then it'll go into executing, the plays, the scheme, but all in all, good to get a win, we'll take it, and we've got a lot of work to do as we move forward this week."
McDermott also discussed the importance of preparation going into the following week at Highmark Stadium, fighting for the AFC East title.
"So like I said, the work continues. We've got to continue to improve as a football team if we want to continue to win moving forward. So that's the summary for you, a lot to be happy about. You celebrate a win, especially this time of year, a lot to be grateful for."
