With the Buffalo Bills suddenly taking a hit to the depth of the wide receiver position, the team has announced the signing of free agent wideout Steven Sims on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old wide receiver is entering his third season in the NFL after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Football Team in 2019 out of the University of Kansas.
In his first two years in Washington, Sims played in 28 games while reeling in 61 receptions for 575 yards and five touchdowns. Sims was also a key contributor in the return game for Washington, totaling 35 kick returns that averaged 24.6 yards per-return and a touchdown, while also returning 30 total punts for 186 yards.
Washington recently released Sims on Monday as part of their latest round of roster cuts.
Sims comes into the fold with the Bills following a recent hit to the team's depth at the wide receiver position.
Buffalo was forced to place wideouts Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday after they were deemed as close contacts of a team trainer that tested positive for COVID-19. Both players now must go through a five-day re-entry process to the facility even though they have tested negative for COVID-19, because they are both unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, injuries are starting to pile up at the position with rookie Marquez Stevenson dealing with a foot injury, and Isaiah McKenzie set to undergo an MRI on his shoulder following an injury in practice on Tuesday. Stefon Diggs has also missed some time during training camp and the preseason, as he has been dealing with a knee ailment.
Sims is the latest wide receiver to join the Bills over the last 24 hours, as Rico Gafford was claimed off waivers on Tuesday along with defensive tackle Joey Ivie.
The other wideouts that make up the Bills' wide receivers room heading into the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday include Emmanuel Sanders, Jake Kumerow, Brandon Powell, Isaiah Hodgins and Tanner Gentry.
