Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills started off the 2025 NFL season in dramatic, comeback fashion, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 41-40 with a last second field goal.
The game was very up and down for the Bills offense. Buffalo scored on the first drive of the game but didn't score another touchdown until halfway through the third quarter. Baltimore's offense controlled much of the game thanks to big runs from running back Derrick Henry and Quarterback Lamar Jackson.
However, thanks to two field goals from the Bills newly signed veteran kicker Matt Prater, the Bills were still hanging around in the game. Bills quarterback Josh Allen then proceeded to have one of the best fourth quarter performances in NFL history by a quarterback.
Allen recorded 251 passing yards and scored three touchdowns, two rushing and one passing, in the fourth quarter alone. Overall, Allen was 33/46 for 394 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 30 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Despite Allen's incredible performance the score remained 40-38 in the final moments of the game. That's when Prater re-entered the conversation.
Allen and the offense were able to drive down to the Ravens' 14-yard line from their own 20-yard line in just over one minute of game time with no timeouts. Prater then ran onto the field and kicked a 29-yard field goal to win the game as the clock ran out just four days after arriving in Buffalo.
The Bills have another AFC matchup in week two, this time in division against their AFC East rival, the New York Jets.
The Jets were unsuccessful in their Week One game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game where former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers exacted revenge. Rodgers recorded 244 yards and four touchdowns in the 34-32 win.
Former Steelers, now Jets quarterback, Justin Fields had a decent day as well throwing for 218 yards and one touchdown, along with two rushing touchdowns.
The dramatic win had Howard Simon feeling good about the Bills chances in Week Two as well as the rest of the NFL season on the latest edition of "Howard Picks The Bills".
Howard has the Bills defeating the Jets and continuing their run winning their first five games in-a-row. The run does have to eventually come to an end, this time it's a loss in Atlanta against the Falcons on Monday Night Football.
The Bills get right back in the win column though, going on another three game winning streak. In this streak he picked them to beat the Carolina Panthers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Miami Dolphins.
Howard has the Bills going back and forth in the win column to round out the final eight games of the year going 4-4 over that stretch. However he has the final regular season game at Highmark Stadium ending on a high note with a win over the Jets in Week 18, and a final record of 12-5.
