Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills defense dominated this past Sunday afternoon in a 37-3 win over the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field to help the team improve to 2-1 on the 2023 season.
Buffalo's defense came out swinging from the start, starting with linebacker Terrel Bernard, who led the way with two sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. The rest of the unit performed admirably as well, racking up seven more sacks and three additional interceptions.
The offense had it's moments, as well, on Sunday.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for 218 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 46 yards and a touchdown. In addition, running back James Cook rushed for 98 yards, and was a main proponent in helping chew clock at the end of the game.
After two easier wins on the schedule, the Bills will return home for their toughest test yet this season against the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium.
The Dolphins open the season with an unbeaten record of 3-0, which includes wins over the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, and a 70-20 walloping the Denver Broncos this past week.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is looking precise and accurate to open the 2023 season, as he threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns against the Broncos.
Meanwhile, Miami's rushing attack is no joke after rookie running back De'Von Achane ran all over the Broncos for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Raheem Mostert also got his fair share of attention with three touchdown runs on 82 yards rushing.
Whoever wins Sunday's contest will end up sitting atop the AFC East standings, and will also have a leg up on on their opponent for the rest of the year, in terms of tiebreakers.
Howard Simon is quite optimistic about the Bills' chances against this Sunday against a loaded Dolphins team. As Howard put it Tuesday on WGR, "Please, dear Lord, let the offense be functioning at a high level on Sunday at 1 p.m."
Not only does Howard foresee the Bills pulling out a victory this week over the Dolphins in Orchard Park, he also upped-the-ante from last week's season picks, picking the Bills to finish 13-4 on the year.
A 13-4 finish to the 2023 season should be good enough for the Bills to secure another postseason berth, but will it be enough to win the AFC East? Only time will truly tell.
