Former big league slugger Bobby Bonilla has one of the greatest contracts ever concocted in baseball history.
After striking an incredible deal with the New York Mets' front office, the franchise has to pay Bonilla $1,193,248.00 every July 1 despite having officially retired in 2001. In fact, he will continue to receive those checks until 2036 when he turns 73.
Although having over a million dollars coming in the bank every year for doing nothing, that hasn't stopped the six-time All-Star from capitalizing even more on his infamous deal.
One lucky and wealthy fan will be able to own their own piece of baseball history. The contract -- the paper it was written on, not the money, has been placed up for auction Wednesday. Goldin Auctions is listing a copy of the said contract as part of a complete experience with Bonilla himself with the bidding opening up at the hefty price of $10,000.
In addition to the copy of the contract -- which will be signed by Bonilla and Joe McIlvaine, the former Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations with the Mets, the auction winner will also receive an opportunity to have breakfast with Bonilla at Citi Field where they will watch a game together and cap of their day off with dinner.
The winner will also receive a 30-minute Zoom call with Bonilla and the agent who brokered the deal Dennis Gilbert, a signed baseball and used bat from Bonilla's personal collection, as well as a Bobby Bonilla NFT.
The plans for the eventual winner will all take place during a future date in 2023.
