Blake Griffin had a choice of 29 teams, assuming all were interested, after accepting his buyout from the Detroit Pistons on Sunday – and as he revealed in an Ask Me Anything on Bleacher Report Monday night, he chose Brooklyn for one reason.
“I wanted to be on a team that was contending,” Griffin said. “My only goal here is to help win a championship. Some years it’s more realistic than others, but that’s why I came to Brooklyn.”
When probed deeper, Griffin intimated that he knows he could see a lot of time in Kevin Durant’s spot while KD is out, and move to a small-ball five/backup forward role when he returns.
"They have a need for a four-man. I've always had a lot of respect for Steve Nash and all of the guys that they have,” Griffin said. “Sean Marks has done great job there. It was a tough decision and I wanted to be on a team that was contending."
Griffin’s long friendship with DeAndre Jordan also helped – the two played together for nine seasons with the Clippers – as did a potential stint on Broadway, at least as a pipe dream.
“I don't know I have the time to be in a cast, but never say never. Cats is a thing so I think I could pull that off,” Griffin said.
And as for whether or not we’ll see Griffin dunk in a game for the first time in two years?
“We'll see...”
