Yankees fans finally had something to celebrate this month as they honored Paul O’Neill on Sunday and retired his No. 21 in Monument Park.

But even amid the celebrations, the boo birds still came out from the disgruntled fans in the Bronx.
During the pre-game ceremony, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner was introduced and fans rained boos down upon him as he made his way onto the field to present a plaque to O’Neill. As Steinbrenner left, the boos grew even louder.
Hal wasn’t the only one, either.
During O’Neill’s speech, he thanked GM Brian Cashman, and the mere mention of his name drew boos from the crowd as O’Neill continued to talk.
It is hard to blame the fans after what they have watched transpire over the last month.
The Yankees are in a tailspin and are 4-14 for the month of August, watching their enormous lead in the AL East dwindle down to seven games entering Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays, who were looking to complete a four-game sweep.
Steinbrenner and Cashman are obviously the main architects of the current roster and coaching staff that has continued to underachieve ever since reaching the ALCS in 2017.
With the recent struggles and championship drought that extends to 2009, fans are getting impatient and letting everyone they are displeased with know about it.
