It was announced yesterday that the State Correctional Institution at Retreat will become a quarantine facility for all newly sentenced state inmates and parole violators before they are transferred to SCI-Camp Hill. Officials say there have been no cases of COVID-19 in the state prison system and this is one way to keep it from entering the system. Gov Wolf announced plans to close SCI Retreat back in January.
Some residents who live near Federal prisons in Wayne and Union Counties are concerned because prisoners from New York are being transferred to those facilities. This comes on the heels of visits with inmates being suspended and prison transfers limited. Officials are concerned that such actions could increase the potential for Coronavirus to move as well.
