MOUNTAIN TOP, PA – A chemical fire at IGE Performance Chemicals in Mountain Top on Tuesday afternoon resulted in four people being hospitalized, marking the second fire incident at the facility in the past couple of months.

Crews were dispatched to the plant around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday to contain the blaze. The four individuals who were injured were transported to the hospital for treatment, but authorities indicate they are expected to be okay.

First responders noted the troubling trend, confirming that this is the second fire at the IGE Performance Chemicals site in recent months. The previous fire, which occurred back in August, reportedly damaged both the inside and outside of the plant near the loading dock.

The cause of Tuesday's chemical fire in Luzerne County is currently unknown and remains under investigation by local authorities, who are working to determine what sparked the incident.
