Wilkes-Barre police are investigating a reported shooting that occurred late Tuesday night on the city’s North Empire Street. Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of the residential street around 9:30 p.m. following reports of 10 to 12 gunshots being fired. At least two individuals were taken into custody at the scene, and a white SUV was towed from the area to police headquarters as part of the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses in the neighborhood reported hearing a rapid succession of shots, but initial reports suggest that no injuries have been confirmed. Police vehicles lined the block for several hours as investigators gathered evidence, though most units cleared the area by late Tuesday night. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those in custody or clarified what led to the incident. No official charges have been announced as detectives continue to process the scene and interview potential witnesses.
