DUPONT, PA — A fast-spreading fire claimed the life of an elderly resident in Luzerne County on Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 400 block of McLean Street in Dupont around 11:30 A.M. after flames broke out at a residential home. Because the fire spread so rapidly, a handful of neighboring fire departments were called in to assist local crews in battling the intense blaze as it tore through the structure.

The Luzerne County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 77-year-old Thomas Kudrako, who resided at the home.

Authorities confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the exact cause of death. At this time, fire marshals have not determined what sparked the deadly fire. The investigation remains ongoing.
