A tragic incident at Hersheypark’s water park, The Boardwalk, has claimed the life of a 9-year-old child. The incident occurred Thursday, July 24, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Lifeguards at the park reportedly noticed the child in distress and swiftly initiated a rescue. On-site medical personnel and first responders attempted life-saving measures, but the child was later pronounced dead at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The cause of death remains unknown, and the specific water attraction involved has not been disclosed.
In a statement, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts CEO John Lawn said, “Our hearts break for this child and the child's family.” He emphasized the company’s commitment to guest safety and confirmed that an internal review is underway. The company is also cooperating fully with authorities.
The Boardwalk is a popular section of Hersheypark featuring 16 water attractions, including the Whitecap Racer and a large wave pool known as The Shore. Lifeguards at the park are required to complete a minimum of 24 hours of training, in addition to ongoing education.
This is only the second death associated with an attraction at the 117-year-old park. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the child's identity has not been released.
