The Democratic primary for the 22nd Senatorial District is officially set as both Jeffrey Lake and incumbent Marty Flynn have successfully cleared challenges to their nomination petitions. In a significant turn of events, Scranton resident and Flynn ally Lawrence "Larry" Wynne withdrew his challenge against Lake’s petition after a detailed review suggested Lake would likely meet the required threshold of 500 valid signatures. Lake had originally submitted 758 signatures, and while Wynne’s legal team initially argued hundreds were invalid, they chose to discontinue the challenge to avoid unnecessary court proceedings once it became clear Lake had sufficient support to remain on the ballot.

Simultaneously, the Commonwealth Court dismissed two separate attempts to remove Senator Marty Flynn from the May 19 primary race. One challenge, filed by Lake himself, argued that Flynn had failed to properly list his voting precinct on his candidate affidavit. A second challenge from La Plume resident Lawrence S. Sparano—whose wife is the unopposed Republican candidate for the same seat—alleged that more than 1,000 of Flynn's 1,384 signatures were invalid. However, Judge Matthew S. Wolf dismissed both cases on procedural grounds, ruling that both Lake and Sparano failed to meet the strict legal deadline for serving their petitions to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
