SCRANTON, Pa. — The City of Scranton is scheduled to host a grand opening ceremony for the brand-new Nay Aug Park pool on Wednesday afternoon at 12 noon.
The highly anticipated opening restores a major recreational feature to the city's largest park. The project's first phase cost an estimated $4.6 million and was funded through a combination of public investment sources, including $3 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act money, a $1 million Local Share Account statewide grant distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and additional city funds.
Local officials noted that Phase I of the project delivers a zero-entry swimming pool equipped with an industrial waterslide and interactive water play features. The new facility represents a significant milestone for the park, reviving community swimming at the site after the original, historic pool complex was closed during the pandemic and ultimately demolished.
