A shuttered beverage plant in Luzerne County is set to reopen, bringing jobs and a major economic boost to the region. Governor Josh Shapiro’s office announced that Pittston Co-Packers Corp. will revive the former Joriki Beverages facility in Pittston Township, injecting $30 million into the local economy.
The new operation on Research Drive will be Pittston Co-Packers’ first beverage production site in the United States. The company, a newly formed indirect subsidiary of China-based Eastroc Beverage Group Co., is taking over Joriki’s lease and equipment. Joriki closed the facility on December 31, leaving 226 workers unemployed.
Backed by state support, the project includes a $1 million PA First grant and $76,100 in WEDnetPA funds to train workers. Pittston Co-Packers plans to create at least 226 full-time jobs over the next three years, with priority hiring for former Joriki employees. The plant is expected to produce beverages under major U.S. brand contracts previously held by Joriki, including Coca-Cola.
