The Lackawanna County Commissioners on Wednesday voted unanimously to file a formal complaint with the Pennsylvania Utility Commission, asking it to reject the water rate increases sought by Pennsylvania American Water. Pennsylvania American Water has asked the PUC to approve rate increases between 29.4 percent and 32.4 percent. In the complaint, Lackawanna County is asking the PUC to deny any proposed new rates and other tariff charges that apply to consumers in Lackawanna County, saying that the rate increase "will have a disproportionate and harmful impact on the county's elderly residents on fixed incomes."
