HARRISBURG, PA — Applications are officially open for Pennsylvania’s 2026–2027 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), offering financial relief to help eligible residents manage household heating costs throughout the fall and winter months.
Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, the program runs through April 23, 2027. Both homeowners and renters who meet household income guidelines can qualify for standard cash grants ranging from $200 to $1,000, determined by household size, annual income, and primary fuel type. Approved cash grants are one-time payments issued directly to the recipient's utility or fuel provider and do not need to be repaid.
For households facing an unexpected loss of heat or an imminent utility shutoff, crisis grants valued between $25 and $1,000 are also available. Crisis assistance covers emergencies such as broken heating equipment, lack of fuel supplies, or pending service terminations, with emergency benefits processed quickly to restore or protect home heating.
Pennsylvanians can submit applications online via the state's COMPASS portal, download a paper application to mail or hand-deliver to their local County Assistance Office, or call the state LIHEAP hotline for application guidance.
