SCRANTON, PA — The Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office has filed a petition in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas seeking an emergency injunction to shut down Solstice Bar & Grill on West Market Street as a public nuisance.
District Attorney Brian J. Gallagher stated that the emergency motion requests a court order forcing the business to immediately cease all operations while the civil enforcement proceeding moves forward. The legal complaint asks the court to declare the establishment a public nuisance and, upon formal judicial findings, permanently halt operations at the site.
The emergency filing follows a major disturbance during the early morning hours of Oct. 3, when a massive crowd spilled out of Solstice Bar & Grill. According to law enforcement officials, multiple fights broke out on West Market Street, completely blocking vehicular traffic and creating a dangerous, volatile scene.
The severity of the incident required a large-scale mutual-aid response. Officers from the Scranton Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and several surrounding municipal police departments were called in to restore order and clear the roadway.
The District Attorney's Office contends that continuous emergency calls to the location place an unreasonable burden on regional public safety resources and threaten neighborhood safety.
