WILKES-BARRE, PA — A fire on Sunday afternoon in Wilkes-Barre has resulted in one fatality, according to city officials. The Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department responded to a second-alarm fire at a home on East South Street shortly after noon.

Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney reported that firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to find heavy flames on the third floor of the residence. As crews battled the blaze, they located a 66-year-old male victim on the third floor, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released as authorities are working to notify his next of kin. Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes was called to the scene and has scheduled an autopsy for this morning to determine the exact cause of death.
