WILKES-BARRE TWP., PA — A small fire in the deli department of the Wilkes-Barre Township Walmart briefly forced the store to evacuate and close Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the retail store at the Wilkes-Barre Township Marketplace around 10:30 a.m. following reports of flames originating from a frying station in the deli section.
Before firefighters arrived, an individual inside the store activated the overhead fire suppression system, which successfully extinguished the blazes. Heavy smoke quickly filled the immediate area, prompting management and first responders to order an immediate evacuation of all shoppers and employees.
The Wilkes-Barre Township Fire Department ventilated the building and inspected the scene. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Following safety checks and cleanup, the store reopened to customers by noon the same day. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
