More housing may be coming to Wilkes Barre as the developer of a proposed apartment building in a shuttered Catholic church and former art/studio gallery will seek zoning approval at Wednesday’s zoning hearing board meeting. According to reports, Owners of 607 N Main Street LLC applied for a variance to establish a 16 unit apartment building at 607 N. Main St., the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, which closed in 2011. In 2016, the space was renovated and converted into an art and gallery space. The Wilkes-Barre Zoning Hearing Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday inside city council chambers on the fourth floor of City Hall.
