Exeter Borough Council voted last night to amend the municipal zoning code to establish clear rules and standards for any future data centers within the borough. Prior to the vote, a short public hearing was held at the municipal building, allowing residents to offer comments on the ordinance. The new regulations provide a formal definition for data centers and their accessory uses while outlining specific standards for how such facilities must be operated and maintained.
The move is considered a proactive measure by local officials, as there are currently no known applications for data center developments submitted to the borough. By incorporating these guidelines into the zoning code now, the council aims to ensure that any future high-tech industrial growth aligns with the borough's infrastructure and land-use expectations.
