During a recent council work session, Luzerne County's outside auditor delivered a favorable fiscal report for the 2024 financial year, citing no major issues. Remi Omisore, a principal with the auditing firm Clifton Larson Allen, stated that the audit detected "no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies" in the county’s finances, such as findings or internal control concerns.

Omisore highlighted the county's strong fund balance as a positive indicator. Luzerne County concluded 2024 with a $27 million fund balance, which equates to approximately 2.8 months of operating expenses. Looking ahead, the county is positioned for further financial strength, with projections showing it will free up approximately $26 million annually after existing debt is fully repaid in 2030, based on the current repayment schedule.
