LA PLUME TWP., PA — The much-anticipated production of the independent psychological thriller "Arachnophilia" has been postponed indefinitely just as filming was scheduled to commence across Northeast Pennsylvania.
The delay comes after New York-based production company Cardinal Flix co-founder Brian Long stepped down from his role as producer due to health reasons. The company must hire a replacement producer before cameras can officially roll on the regional shoot.
Despite the setback, Long remains with Cardinal Flix and assured that the project will move forward. Cast and crew members already hired for the production remain attached to the film.
Written and directed by Sarah T. Schwab, "Arachnophilia" follows a high school orchestra teacher who overcomes a crippling fear of spiders and uses her newfound fascination with arachnids to exact revenge. The production plans to maintain its slated shooting locations across Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, including Keystone College in La Plume Township, downtown Scranton venues, and Pittston.
However, with filming paused, the movie’s tentative fall 2027 New York premiere date will almost certainly be pushed back. "Arachnophilia" is intended to be the flagship project in a broader slate of four feature films Cardinal Flix plans to produce in Northeastern Pennsylvania over the next four to five years.
