Two residents were forced to flee their home late Sunday night after a fire broke out on Depew Avenue in Mayfield. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene in Lackawanna County around 11 p.m. following reports of a fast-moving blaze. Upon arrival, fire officials determined that the incident began in the home’s fireplace before quickly spreading out of control. Despite the intensity of the flames, both occupants managed to evacuate the structure safely and no injuries were reported.

First responders faced grueling conditions throughout the night, as they were forced to battle thick ice and freezing temperatures alongside the fire. The sub-zero conditions caused challenges for crews on the ground, but they were eventually able to bring the situation under control. While the home sustained damage, the quick exit of the residents and the rapid response of local fire departments prevented a potential tragedy.
